General Tips For Choosing A Toothbrush
There are certain features that you should look for in any toothbrush you may choose, whether it is manual or electric.
Size Of The Toothbrush
The best toothbrush head for you should allow easy access to all surfaces of your teeth. For most adults, a half-inch or one-inch toothbrush head will be the easiest to use and most effective.
Although larger toothbrush heads are available, you may find it difficult to maneuver them in order to clean certain areas, such as the sides and back of your molars.
The toothbrush should have a long enough handle so that you can hold it comfortably in your hand.
Variety of bristles
If you go to the pharmacist to buy a toothbrush or a replacement head for an electric toothbrush, you will be able to choose a toothbrush with soft, medium or hard nylon bristles. For the vast majority of people, a soft toothbrush will be the most comfortable and safest choice.
Depending on how hard you brush your teeth, hard bristles can actually damage the gums, root surfaces and protective tooth enamel.
For even more protection of the teeth when brushing, be sure that the bristles of the toothbrush you choose have rounded edges.
Expert’s recommendation
To ensure that your toothbrush has undergone rigorous quality control tests for cleaning efficiency and safety, ask your dentist to recommend one. Alternatively, look for manual or electric toothbrushes that have won the American Dental Association (ADA) seal of approval.
